Hydronephrosis, No More!!!
Fowler had went in for an ultrasound on his kidney again yesterday (to continue monitoring the hydronephrosis found inutero). By the way, hydronephrosis is the dilation of the inside (collecting part) of the kidney...it is usually caused by a blockage in the ureter or by abnormal backwash or reflux of urine from the bladder. We had been told that many times the condition will "work itself out" within the first year of life...but could potentially cause damage to the kidney, if not monitored. So, that's the reason for the tests! Since the u/s yesterday did not show any abnormal dilation, they did another procedure/test to determine whether or not the condition cleared itself up! For the first time I was glad that Dewayne wasn't there. The procedure was very uncomfortable for Fowler...poor guy! There were three of us holding him down, in addition to the doctor and assistant. He cried and cried!! What they did was a retrograde urography...basically, they inserted a tube with radioplaque dye (that can be seen on x-rays) into his private part! OUCH!!! They took x-rays on the kidney, bladder and urethra...and by watching the flow of the urine, it looks like his urinary tract is normal! We were very excited to get that news!!! If tests would have shown blockage, then surgery would have been the next step. I am glad we don't have to go through that! So, that's the update! And by the way, Fowler is fine...there was not pain or soreness for him after the urography (thank goodness, since he is working on cutting his first tooth right now!!!).

We are so glad that our prayers have been answered and Fowler doesn't need surgery!
Well, I haven't been to your blog in a couple of days, and somehow, Grandmother has forgotten to tell me the news! I'm so glad that Fowler doesn't have to have the surgery. We've been praying for him. A boy in our church just had that surgery this week. Give Fowler a big hug from all the girl cousins! (and me!)
